FOC f/96 exposures will be taken in B and V, 1 hr each, near the center of NGC 6397. The aim is to determine a faint color-magnitude array, as well as a faint luminosity function and the relative density distribution of faint stars of different magnitudes. This program should go very much fainter than 3218, since in addition to the COSTAR gain the former 3ND can be removed. (The ND were needed in order to avoid saturation due to the diffuse light of the overlapping spherical-aberration halos.) Short ND exposures will be taken, in order to get the brighter stars without saturation. A short F275W exposure will be taken, to lengthen the color baseline for the X-ray source, which becomes prominent in the UV. If an INT ACQ is needed, it will be taken through F342W, so as further to increase the color information.
