A Monte Carlo simulation model was developed to model the rarefied sodium vapor flow in the alkali metal thermoelectric converter (AMTEC) cell being developed for the Pluto Fast Flyby mission. The model predicts a linear relationship of beta-alumina solid electrolyte (BASE) pressure with respect to current density. The pressure/current density relationship developed from this model can be readily applied in the current overpotential equation for analytical and design purposes. The Monte Carlo simulation model can be readily applied to AMTEC cells with a different geometrical configuration.
