An analytical approach similar to that of Kimura and Matsuo (1982) is used to determine the wave normal angles of waves that were recorded on board the AMPTE-UKS spacecraft in the vicinity of the dayside magnetopause. The results support a previous conclusion that the observed waves were whistler-mode waves propagating parallel or almost parallel to the magnetic field. One typical example of the whistler-mode-wave observations by the AMPTE, which took place on orbit 29, day 283 (1984) of the mission is presented.
