The total angular precession of the spin vector of a photon (or neutrino) as it moves through the gravitational field of a non-rotating spherically symmetric mass is obtained, in lowest order, by means of an hypothesis previously applied to a slowly moving gyroscope. Since the spin vector of the photon must point along its path in the asymptotic region, as is well known from other considerations, it follows that the total angular precession of the spin vector must equal the total angular deflection of the path. The deflection obtained is in agreement with the general relativistic result.
