Ground quartz, pretreated with HF, was shaken with buffer of pH
7·7 at 25°C. Suspensions, with and without added monosilicic
acid, gave the same steady monosilicic acid concentration viz. 18-20 ppm
SiO 2 . Quartz samples which were contaminated with Al generally failed
to establish steady concentrations of monosilicic acid.
