The three-wave interaction approximation is used to assess the possibility of the formation of weakly anisotropic irregularities in the E and F regions of the high-latitude ionosphere due to the nonlinear interaction of electrostatic waves generated by gradient-drift instability. It is shown that the nonlinear interaction can lead to the appearance in the F-region of irregularities with a transverse dimension of 600 m and an anisotropy of beta = 3-10 at drift velocities of 100-1000 m/s. In addition, it is found that meter-scale weakly anisotropic irregularities can arise at heights of 100-120 km.
