A kinetic-equation method is used to calculate the spectra and angular distributions of muons at large depths in water and soil. Various questions pertaining to the investigation of cosmic-ray muons are examined: (1) spectral slope at sea level at an energy of approximately 10 to the 13th eV; (2) the possibility of studying photonuclear interaction at large depths; and (3) the fraction of direct muons generated from the decay of short-lived D and Lambda-c particles.
