The general-relativistic field equations are examined from the point of
view of a local inertial observer and a quasilocal definition of
energy-momentum is thereby obtained. This definition relates to the
Bel-Robinson tensor and the approach is shown to be consistent with the
result obtained from the definition of energy given by Hawking.
