The author briefly outlines the concept and some of the scientific goals
of the Europa campaign performed by the Galileo spacecraft from December
16, 1997 to February 1, 1999, with a closest approach to the satellite
surface of 200 km. In particular, Galileo will search for further
evidence of an ocean beneath the icy surface of Europa.
