An overview of the standard model is given. The importance of symmetry in its development is emphasized. Some outstanding problems in the electroweak sector are surveyed and possible solutions in the form of ``Hidden Symmetries'' are described. Experimental approaches for exploring the ``New Physics'' expected from those symmetries are discussed. The role of some high precision measurements is emphasized.
