It is proposed that earthquake waves energize the geomagnetic dynamo.
Fluid motions generated by earthquakes may have enough energy to be in
equipartition with fields as large as 100 gauss. Seismic waves from
meteoritic impacts with energies sufficient to reverse the field occur
every 170,000 years.
