The factors contributing to the high surface temperature of Venus were investigated. The implications of this high surface suggest that a permanently buoyant lithosphere exists as well as a thick balsic crust. Terrestrial style tectonics with deep subduction and crustal recycling is not possible. Overthickened basaltic crust partially melts instead of converting to eclogite. Because mantle magmas do not have convenient acess to the surface the Ar40 abundance in the atmosphere should be low. Venus provides an analog to Archean tectonics on the Earth.
