The local stability of accretion disks is investigated through the study of an unbounded rotating compressible viscous plane Couette flow. Bulk viscosity is included. Such a flow is shown to be stable against all small amplitude disturbances. The implication of this result for the origin of the assumed turbulent viscosity is explored. In particular, the possible role of finite amplitude perturbations in the onset of turbulence is stressed.
