The paper gives a brief description of the results of experimental investigations and some theoretical calculations of propagation of e.l.f. and v.l.f. waves in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide in the frequency range from 60 c/s up to 30 kc/s. The experimental amplitude spectra and the mean phase velocities are given for day and night. These spectra have maxima at [latin small letter f with hook]max [reverse similar, equals] 6-9 kc/s and at [latin small letter f with hook]max [reverse similar, equals] 60-150 c/s at distances r = 2000-6000 km. The mean phase velocity v[combining macron] decreases monotonically with frequency increase; at . Theoretical propagation curves (the amplitude and additional phase of the propagation function) in the frequency range [latin small letter f with hook] [reverse similar, equals] 100-105c/s and in the distance range r = (102 ÷ 1.5 · 104) km are given for a flat and spherical waveguide. Theoretically expected waveforms of atmospherics for fixed distances in the same distance range are calculated. The theoretical and experimental spectra are in a rather good agreement.
