It is proposed here that the fast tearing modes in cylindrical geometry are an effective heating mechanism for postflare coronal arch of May 21-22, 1980, which remained visible for more than 10 hrs after onset. The magnetic energy supplied by the tearing modes is calculated along with the corresponding fast tearing modes growth rate and time. The MHD equilibrium and the stability of the arch are discussed.
