Cosmic Rays
Scientific paper
This chapter introduces the so-called anomalous cosmic rays. These energetic particles are, most probably, accelerated at the heliospheric shock. A brief discovery history is followed by a presentation of relevant observations. After a discussion of the main acceleration mechanisms, the emphasis is put on modeling results obtained with 1-D self-consistent and 3-D test particle codes. Finally, key questions connected to the physics of anomalous cosmic rays are ientified.
