A model of a chromospheric resonant cavity for slow-mode magneto-acoustic waves is developed in order to explain the properties of observed oscillations in sunspot chromospheres and in the transition layer. These oscillations in velocity with periods of about 3 min which are observed in the chromosphere above sunspot umbrae are utilized to provide an independent method of investigating the solar atmospheric structure. It is shown that the sunspot models result in resonant oscillations with periods which are in good agreement with those from observations. Possible improvements for this model are also discussed.
