Vertical incidence ionospheric sounding records at Ottawa during the passage of isolated thunderstorms in 1959 are studied. During thunderstorms, an increase [latin small letter f with hook]Es and an increase in the number of multiple radio reflections from the Es are detected. These effects are suggestive of a relationship between the occurrence of thunderstorms and the ionization in the sporadic-E region of the ionosphere.
