Interferometers: Active Optics
Scientific paper
Recent theoretical advances regarding the analysis of image formation in diluted interferometric arrays of N apertures show that the observing performance can be higher than previously expected. Technical progress in the way of active mirrors and telescope mounts announce the construction of such instruments in the form of 10 m telescopes, arrayed on a platform spanning several kilometers. Such instruments can in principle produce resolved images of extra-solar planets.
