The XMM-Newton observations were taken on 2003 July 3 with a total exposure time of ~45ks for the EPIC-MOS cameras and ~42ks for the European Photon Imaging Camera (EPIC) PN camera. We use only the data from the PN camera (with a thin optical blocking filter) because of its high sensitivity to soft X-rays in the study of diffuse emission and include the data from the MOS cameras in the analysis of X-1.
