Several space agencies world wide are presently defining their concepts to conserve the space debris environment of the Earth at a level which allows to continue a safe execution of space programs in the next decades and beyond. ESA has initiated the issue of a Space Debris Mitigation Handbook which is intended to generate awareness of the space debris problem, and to give guidelines to projects concerning possible mitigation measures which can be applied during different phases of a mission life cycle.
