We report on XMM-Newton observations of the supernova remnant (SNR) VRO 42.05.01 (G166.0+4.3). Its peculiar radio morphology, a northeastern circular "shell" intersected by a larger bowl-shaped "wing", is suggestive of the occurrence of the supernova explosion just within the edge of a dense cloud surrounded by tenuous interstellar materials. We found that Fe abundance is highly elevated in the wing region but close to solar in the shell region. We also found that Ne is overabundant by a few times solar in both regions. Other spectral parameters like electron temperature, foreground absorption, and ionization timescale are similar in both regions. We discuss the implications of these results in the context of the SNR's evolution in particular interstellar environments.
