The authors have made a deep search for faint emission nebulae around 12 hot sdO stars, by means of long slit spectroscopy. For comparison, they have observed with the same equipment the planetary nebulae recently discovered around RWT 152, LSS 2018, and LSS 1362. They have detected faint emission around 6 of their 12 program objects. However, it is argued that these emissions are not associated with the sdO stars. Instead, reasons are found to suggest to have detected unrelated diffuse low-excitation ionized regions, such as those studied by Reynolds (1984). It is concluded that searches around other sdO stars at this level of sensitivity should be preferentially based on (or at least complemented by) direct imaging, particularly at low galactic latitudes. Finally, the authors make some comments about the interpretation of low-gravity sdO stars not surrounded by detectable nebulosity as post-AGB objects.
