Conduction electron spin densities and their contribution to the diffuse part of the neutron magnetic form factor of Gd metal, measured by Moon et al., have been determined by means of spin polarized APW calculations. Although our spin density is similar to that of Moon et al., we are unable to reproduce their large region of negative spin density. Thus, our theoretical form factor is considerably lower than experiment at the first (hkl) reflection. Possible reasons for this difference are discussed here.
