Long XMM-Newton observations of nearby, low luminosity Seyfert galaxies are revolutionising our understanding of the X-ray emission and absorption processes in AGN. RGS data reveal a wealth of narrow absorption lines as well as broad features that could be relativistic emission lines lines from an accretion disk, while EPIC data are allowing us to measure the profiles of broad iron K lines with unprecedented accuracy. We propose to extend these studies to the Seyfert/quasar border, where most of the Universe's accretion power originates, by observing the two brightest X-ray luminous Seyferts MCG -2-58-22 and III Zw 2. Our current XMM data show that both these sources have spectral features warranting further investigation.
