Groups of galaxies are the most common associations of galaxies and are predicted to contain more baryons than clusters of galaxies and individual galaxies combined. Previous studies have focused on the centers of these systems, but their surface brightness profiles are so shallow that most of the gas lies at large radii, so fundamental properties, such as their baryon fractions, have yet to be measured accurately. We propose to observe a group out toward its virial radius in order to measure the baryon fraction, the entropy profile (essential in constraining heating models), and the abundance distribution. From abundances ratios, we can determine the supernova history of the group and whether the system experienced a supernova-driven group wind, as some models predict.
