Scientific paper

We propose to observe two Galactic Mixed-Morphology (MM) supernova remnants (SNRs), Kes 27 and 3C 396, with XMM. These SNRs suggest unusual characteristics for MM SNRs such as significant temperature variations and/or central nonthermal X-ray emission. The proposed XMM observations will provide a unique opportunity to probe these unchracteristics SNRs which challenge the standard models.
