The SW Sex stars are a sub-type of cataclysmic variable (CV) that show optical absorption at phase 0.5, single-peaked emission lines even at high inclination, and orbital periods of 3-5 hours. Several researchers have speculated that SW Sex stars are magnetic CVs, specifically, intermediate polars. The proposed observations will test that speculation by searches for X-ray periods and hard X-ray spectra, two signatures that define the subclass of intermediate polar.
