We propose XMM observations of two LINER-type ultraluminous infrared galaxies for which our infrared 3--4 micron slit spectroscopy has revealed the presence of centrally-concentrated energy sources, as is expected for a buried AGN. The main goal is to obtain direct X-ray evidence that the centrally-concentrated energy sources are indeed buried AGNs (strong 2--10 keV X-ray emitter), and not unusually centrally-concentrated starbursts (weak X-ray emitter).
