We propose to observe the Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy RX J0134.2-4258 by XMM in order to study its strange spectral variability on short and long timescales. RX J0134.2-4258 was one of the softest AGN during the RASS but changed its X-ray spectrum dramatically and to become rather hard in pointed observations years later. It is mainly its hard X-ray component that varies. Possible models to explain the spectral behaviour are warm, ionized absorbers or the loss and recovery of the disk corona. With a 50 ks XMM observation we will be able to search for the presence or absence of warm absorber features and and an analysis of the soft and hard X-ray component light curves allow us to distinguish between both models.
