ISOCAM, the ISO camera, is designed to map selected regions of the sky in the spectral region from 2.5 to 17 microns at various spatial and spectral resolutions, and at high sensitivity (about 1mJy in 10 minutes). It will make images, within the 3 arc minute field of view of the ISO telescope, with two 32 x 32 infrared array detectors. Four different pixel fields of view are available on each channel and the spectral range can be selected by fixed band-pass filters and continuous variable filters; polarization measurements are possible as well. The concept and the rationale behind the various technological choices that have been made to withstand ISO specific environment are described. The integration and scientific ground calibration of this sophisticated instrument required a specific cryogenic test equipment, with 4 K cooled optics and programmable infrared sources between 150 and 450 K. At present, the calibration of the flight model has been performed, and the analysis of the results of this calibration is in progress.
