Successes and shortcomings of the magnetic-dipole emission model for pulsars are reviewed here and a modification of this model is presented. There is a power law relation between the modificatory factor and the time derivative of the period. The decaying time scale of the modified magnetic field is greater than 108 years which is consistent with the theoretical results. The new relation between P˙ and P derived from the modified model is P˙ ∝ P derived from the modified model is P˙ ∝ P-3, which is similar to the results of the statistical analysis.
