We consider the general relativistic tranfer equation on an arbitrary background geometry and present an approximate expression for the collision integral valid under the assumption that the four momentum exchanges Δkμ during collisions are neglected to order O(Δkμ)3. The resulting equation is a general realtivistic extension of the Kompaneets equation.
