We analyze the possibility that the apparent periodicity of 128h-1 Mpc discovered in deep pencil-beams redshift surveys could be due to the mere presence of an intrinsic length scale in the Universe. We consider a toy model universe which allows us to simulate deep pencil-beams and determine the probability for observing that periodicity. Our results show that this probability is not higher that 10-8, a value that completely discards an intrinsic length scale as the explanation for this periodicity.
