We describe the geometry of the event horizon of a spacetime containing
black holes, in terms of a conformal rescaling of a flat space null
hypersurface. The method reproduces the "pair-of-pants" shaped horizon
found in the collision of two black holes, as well as an initially
toroidal horizon whose shape has a bearing on the hoop conjecture.
