In the AdS/CFT correspondence, a troubling issue has been the possibility that conformal field theories on distinct components of the spacetime's Penrose conformal boundary (also called the boundary-at-infinity, or "scri") may be correlated. Such correlations might well be regarded as pathologies. Working in the Euclidean version of AdS/CFT, Witten and Yau1 recently resolved this issue by showing that if the conformal boundary has positive scalar curvature, and if the bulk is complete and has Ricci curvature bounded below, then there is only one conformal boundary component. Therefore, there can be no second boundary component, and so there can be no resulting pathological correlations in the boundary CFT. Cai and Galloway2 have extended this result to the case of the conformal boundary having zero scalar curvature...
