Boson stars are condensations of fundamental scalar particles. With the standard Higgs boson or the hypothetical axidilaton of effective string theories as constituents, they could provide a considerable fraction of the non-baryonic part of dark matter. Recent developments in this fascinating topic of astrophysics suggest that they could possibly play a role in explaining MACHOs, the supermassive center of galaxies, as well as energetic Gamma ray bursts.
