Based on the Randall-Sundrum alternative compactification in 5-D gravity theory, we derive the 4-D effective gravitational equations on the brane, which reduce to the conventional Einstein equations in the low-energy limit for a positive-tension brane. We find two additional important terms, i.e. a quadratic term of the energy-momentum tensor of matter field and some 5-D Weyl tensor term. The effective equations are not closed only by the variables on the brane because the latter term is a 5-D variable. Since it might provide us a window to look into extra dimensions, we discuss about some effects of those terms on cosmological models and compact objects. We also study more realistic case with a dilaton field based on the Hořava-Witten model.
