Leveling surveys conducted in Nepal over the past 15 years indicate interseismic local uplift and depression of surface rocks with wavelengths of 30-50 km. Localized uplift of 4 +/-1 mm/yr in the Greater Himalaya is geographically coincident with the north-west, south-east trend of the high Himalaya peaks and near an inferred zone of increased dip in Main Boundary Thrust at depth. In the Lesser Himalaya, maximum uplift rates of 2 +/-0.3 mm/yr coincide with a mapped anticline and the projection of the Main Siwalik Thrust.
