A model-independent study is provided to obtain consequences about
theredshifts of the gamma-ray bursts collected in the BATSE Catalog. The
shortand the long subgroups are studied separately. It is obtained that
the redshift distribution of the long bursts may wellbe proportional to
the star formation rate. For the short burststhis hardly can happen.
