Active Galaxies And Quasars
Scientific paper
I will review the first 2 years of Chandra & XMM-Newton grating observations of Active Galactic Nuclei. Particular emphasis will be placed on those sources exhibiting absorption features due to ionized, circumnuclear gas along the line of sight. With the spectral resolution offered by Chandra the velocity field of these ``warm absorbers'' can now be constrained. The observational constraints and implications will be reviewed, along with the relationship between the X-ray and UV-absorbing gas. I will also present preliminary results from a multi-satellite monitoring campaign of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3783.
