A theory of evolution of the universe is proposed which is based on a description of the distribution of matter in the universe and its metric properties by means of a unique field, psi(x). A concept of submatter state is introduced, which is a universal state of simplest possible configuration of psi and which is given by a homogeneous distribution in the space and in time of psi. The Lagrangian function which describes the dynamics of psi is solved. The fundamental solution of the function is not stable, but represents a de Sitter type of universe. Viewing the submatter configuration as representative of de Sitter bubbles, two extreme cases describing its particular evolution throughout space-time are discussed: the case in which there is no influence of the exterior on the bubble, and the case in which the influence of the exterior can be treated in a stochastic regime, in which case the bubbles, named chaotons, behave in a chaotic fashion.
