A review of five papers from the URSI Symposium on Active Experiments in Space Plasmas is presented. Topics discussed include the occurrence of intermediate scale plasma filamentation, pump self-focusing, and pump depletion. Consideration is given to the theoretical study of anomalous absorption and reflection due to small scale plasma irregularities excited by a heater. Observations of the heating process from the Arecibo and Ramfjordmoen heaing facilities using radio star scintillation and incoherent scatter techniques are described.
