We propose to begin the investigation of the chemical state of a large sample of massive young stellar objects. The sample has been selected from our Red MSX Source survey and being mid-IR bright objects are likely to trace a somewhat later stage than the IR dark clouds and methanol maser sources. Accretion and heavy mass-loss are ongoing and they are amenable to detailed future IR investigations. In order to investigate the infall/outflow physics as a function of age as well as luminosity it is necessary to establish a way of dating these objects. We expect to see the tailing off of the hot core chemistry during this phase and our proposed broadband line survey will simultaneously yield many important tracers of the chemical evolution.
