An attempt is made to study in detail the problem of the allowable mean value for the invariant spatial distances among several observers in a certain class of the space-time with spherical symmetry. It is found that, except in a few cases, we can simultaneously determine the functional form of the allowable mean value and the metric tensor for the space-time under consideration. The results thus obtained are applied to various space-times present in cosmology.
