We present a preliminary analysis of the recently discovered
carbon-dominated atmosphere white dwarfs (``Hot DQ'') based on HST/COS
observations. We also present a summary of the recent findings that
emerged from our ongoing campaign aimed at obtaining high
signal-to-noise optical spectroscopic observations of these objects.
