We propose to use NIRI on Gemini-North to carry out J and K band spectroscopy of a sample of four z~ 6 quasars that show strong sub- millimeter radiation from cool dust. Our targets have flux at ~ 1mm in the observed frame ranging from 2 to 5 mJy, implying a star- formation rate of 200 - 1000 M_&sun; yr^-1, if dust is heated by star-formation. Thus, they provide the best probe of the co-evolution of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies at the earliest epoch. We will use the near-infrared spectroscopy to target CIV, HeII, MgII and FeII emissions in these quasars. These observations will enable us to : (1) measure black hole masses of the quasars based broad emission line width; (2) accurately measure MgII redshift and use it as the system redshift that is needed for efficient search for radio CO emission, which will provide estimate mass of the host galaxies; and (3) estimate metallicity of broad line regions using emission line ratios. The observations will provide direct insight to the establishment of M_BH-M_gal relation and chemical enrichment of the earliest supermassive black holes and AGNs in the Universe.
