To protect ACIS from further radiation damage, it is stowed during all radiation belt passages. During this time, the HRC is at the focal point of the mirrors with its door open. At present, the transmission of the UVIS is only monitored once per year with short Vega observations. The HRC PI team has requested, and been given approval by the Director's office, to observe Vega every 3 months for the next year to determine if the filter is being damaged by radiation. This proposal contains 8 additional HRC observations of Vega for AO5. Four observations (one for each HRC plate) will take place in August 2004 and the remaining 4 in November 2004.
