Solar Interior: Differential Rotation, Solar Convective Zone: Solar Rotation

Scientific paper

The authors discuss the possibility of a sharp transition from differential to rigid rotation below the solar convection zone being produced by an internal magnetic field of the radiative core. The transition due to viscosity is smooth irrespectively of the viscosity value. The poloidal magnetic field locked in the radiative core makes a strong effect. Even a very weak field of 10-4 G reduces the thickness of the transition layer below the helioseismologically imposed upper limit of ≡0.1Rsun.
