Scientific paper
This conference discussed the scientific goals, the design concepts, and instrumental aspects and requirements for candidate future space missions, dedicated to fundamental physics (high-precision tests of the weak and the strong equivalence principle, tests of general relativity, detection of cosmic sources of gravitational radiation). Major projects discussed here in the context of ESA's "Horizon 2000+" program of space research include: (1) STEP (Satellite Test of the Equivalence Principle); (2) GEM (Gravity Explorer Mission); (3) Gravity Probe B relativity mission; (4) LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) for the detection of gravitational waves from astrophysical sources.
